About Us

The Welbeloved Club was founded in 2017 by Jo Sydes (Gill), with the aim of providing friendship and company over a tasty two-course hot lunch.

After several years of working in social care, Jo felt there was a gap in the local community that helped alleviate isolation among older people on one of the loneliest days of the week. So, The Welbeloved Club was born.

Since the first lunch back in February 2018 with 48 diners, the club has gone from strength to strength and now hosts on average 130 diners per month. Aged just 25 at the time, Jo felt passionate about providing a space older members of the community could come and escape the loneliness of four walls at home. Jo works all year round with the support of volunteer teams on many different projects, all with the aim of ensuring our older community are not alone.

The Club is named after and pays tribute to Jo’s Great-Grandma Doris Welbeloved who, after a number of strokes, spent the remainder of her living years on her own due to being relocated.

Run by an experienced board of Trustees, The Welbeloved Club welcomes and encourages people who are living on their own and feeling lonely or socially isolated to join. No question is too big or too small, so please get in touch!
